“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! (Matthew 6:22-23)
Are you dwelling on the negative? Are you ruminating over what you don’t have? Are your most noticeable (or loudest) problems occupying your attention? In essence, is the squeaky wheel in your life getting the grease? If so, you may be feeling down, anxious, and/or drained. Avoid being defeated: control your focus! Three essentials for feeling better:
-
Focus on what is honorable, lovely, and praiseworthy.
-
Follow the “3-second rule”: look away quickly from that which does not serve you or anyone else well.
-
Contemplate on what gives you mental energy, empowerment and hope (i.e. the next positive step to take, the resources you have to move ahead, and the things for which you currently have that you can be grateful).
